Introduction

It was Saturday, January 31st. All I wanted him to do was help me load a heavy chair from my garage into a borrowed truck. Simple. I was 45; he had just turned 29. The following Friday we decided to get married and did so three weeks later, exactly four weeks after that fateful Saturday when my life changed forever.

On February 28, 2013, we celebrated our 26th anniversary. He still thinks I’m eye candy and I still think he’s the sexiest, most wonderful man in the world.

I know exactly what I did to go from twice-divorced and miserable to meeting the man of my dreams in a few short weeks. What I did is the subject of this blog and my book, “Ten Weeks to Love.”

Of Men and Horses

BazanPismo3EvanI love horses. I’ve had a passion for them since I was a kid with no means of actually owning one.

When I was a single working mom, I could not justify spending money on horse activities, except for the occasional ride on a rental horse. And during my two marriages, neither of my husbands had an interest in supporting my horse habit.

My “dream horse,” Bazan with his former owner aboard. Bazan is gorgeous, smart, and friendly. He’s in my life because Charley likes seeing me happy!

“Ten Weeks to Love” on Amazon, Barnes & Noble!

10weeks2love book coverYippee! After much back-and-forth, editing, re-editing, photo selection, caption addition—and just plain wanting it to be right—my eBook is now available for the Kindle (Amazon) and the Nook (Barnes & Noble)! (Soon as I buy a Mac, it will be available for the iPad as well.)

(Note: For those of you who do not have the above devices, Amazon has a free app to make it possible to view eBooks on your computer or other devices. I haven’t checked yet, but I suspect that B&N has a similar app.)

I love this cover! I can hardly wait to see it in print! My dear friends at Peter Green Design understood the vision I had and got it right!

Love Stress in the Work Place

2D Cover croppedHaving worked my entire life, I’ve seen the impact of failed relationships on the job. Divorce, cheating, unhappiness, failure—very visible, palpable, and somewhat consuming of thought and action on the job.

While I have not yet found any concrete statistics on the extent of lost production time in dollars and cents from such relationship stresses, I’m sure it’s significant.

Our wedding invitation, 1987. Wedding featured horses, bales of hay, a country band, western dancing, and a preacher dressed in black, head to toe. Yeehaw!

Love and Hate

DSCN0272It’s only a matter of time before I will be hated, even reviled. Why? Because I’m happy, positive, cheerful and, dare I say, “peppy!”

Yesterday I saw an article on the front page of my browser about all the hate being leveled at actress Anne Hathaway. It seems that she’s just too “peppy,” upbeat, positive and nice for some people with nothing better to do than tear others down so they can feel better about themselves.

Wipe that smile off your face, sailor! OMG! I’ve had that coat 20 years! And what’s up with that hair!?

Mother

Mom paintingI’ve been thinking about my mother of late. March 20th would be her 92nd birthday if she had lived past the tragically-young age of 56. On the 20th, I will celebrate her life in my heart.

As I mention in my book, Mother was married so many times that until very recently, my brother and I could not agree on how many times exactly and to whom. I say “until recently” because Mark finally convinced me that his number—eight men, nine marriages (she married Dad twice)—was correct. Never mind that I knew nothing about a couple of these marriages! Or that at least one of them may have been spiritual but not legal. At least Mark and I agree!

Mother in Philadelphia, 1942. Beautiful and so unhappy. Artist: Helen Oman Gross, my aunt.
